To Bermuda

When I returned to the CBP office, I learned that I wouldn’t have had to come by to check out of the country. O well. I took the bus back to Key Biscayne and asked the park ranger about sharks in the area because I needed to clean the bottom of the boat. “There are bull sharks in the bay – and a few weeks ago we spotted a great white in the area, so just don’t make any hectic movements and make sure no one is fishing while you are diving” The hull cleaning went faster than usual and probably less thorough, too.

Anchoring in front of St. George’s, Bermuda

We took off for Bermuda the next day. The trip took a bit more than nine days and got fairly rough towards the end. I made a little movie about it. Unfortunately my talking in the movie is only in German. I have been playing around with subtitles but didn’t yet get them to work right.

I arrived in Bermuda and after I had cleared in at the customs dock on Ordnance Island I went to the anchorage in Convict Bay where I met Hubert who I had last seen in Luperón.
The next day Andi and Kudi arrived from the BVI and we explored the island together and Hubert left for the Azores.
Bermuda must be one of the most expensive places on earth. Apart from the fact that it is a very beautiful place it’s really no fun to go out for a beer or let alone something to eat. Even grocery shopping costs a fortune.

We are now waiting for a weather window to continue to the Azores and as I am writing this and editing the movie another storm hit the island. We have 35 knot winds in the anchorage and Amy is jumping on her anchor rode like a horse. I stayed up last night for the anchor and hope that the wind will die before later tonight so I can get some sleep.
