By daybreak we got to St. Lucia and wanted to enter into Soufrière Bay by the two big Pitons. From afar we saw many boats leaving the bay. More room for us we thought, but then we saw the wind gusts. There was spray all over the place and it looked scary from afar. I had a lump in my throat and immediately reefed the genoa to a towel size. The first gust hit with 50 knots the second with 55 knots. I was afraid that the mast would not survive this but it did and we were able to run away from the wind.

We decided to go all the way to the north of the island. It was another few hours and we were very tired but in Rodney Bay we would be very well protected. We anchored off the beach in a nice corner with a local bar.
After a long walk through the city we arrived at Customs and Immigration and were able to clear into the country. After that it was back to Marie’s at the beach for BBQ fish and some beers and one of the best Rum Punch so far. We slept like logs.
We wanted to take a hike near the pitons and needed to get there. Buses seemed to take too long and be too complicated in this case so we called Marie’s brother Levi and his nephew Junior drove us around after we had cleared out of the country for our departure which would be tomorrow. The landscape was beautiful and Junior provided us with interesting information and drove us to a sulphur bath after the hike. A very nice day. It ended with more BBQ fish at Marie’s where we met Andi and Kudi who had also arrived in Rodney Bay in the meantime.
