Oban

The next day, cast off with the tide and sailed the 30 nautical miles to Oban. I hadn’t expected it, but we were able to sail the entire way beautifully. The Corran rapids were relatively unspectacular thanks to the wind direction, and we flew through them without the nasty waves. We even passed another sailboat—something that almost never happens. Just before Oban, a small dolphin came for a brief visit, but then changed its mind.

Even though the boats from the Clipper Ocean Race are currently docked in Oban and it’s a big event, we still managed to find a spot. Due to strong currents and strong winds, I unfortunately botched the docking maneuvre, but Zissi heroically saved our delicate Amy from a very sturdy French swimming platform (or the French swimming platform from our Amy, however you care to see it), and with the kind help of the French swimming platform owner, Amy was safely guided into the berth—and here we are now, waiting to meet our friends Nico and David tomorrow.
